One of the great triumphs of humanity, the people of the third rock, is that they created the first interstellar music streaming service. 24 hours an earth day, music from the entirety of the cosmos is available to anyone with an interstellar radio and a vibration node. As you can imagine, this was a huge undertaking and a huge accomplishment. Suddenly, from anywhere, you could hear the sultry vocular vibes of fAte21 or Cucumberoso. Music everywhere literally ending conflicts, bringing alien races together, and inspiring ages of intellectualism & interstellar booty shaking.
SOAK was the first station reachable from anywhere in the cosmos. From your interstellar radio, you just turn the knob to SOAK and explore all the music that ever was. Infinite, when it comes to music anyway, is quite tenable to most creatures which made SOAK an instant hit. Where you were human on earth or a vt100 on the fringes of existence, you could tune into SOAK and find music to move yourself onto.
The first interstellar radio station took approximately 500 years to complete. While yes, this is quite a long time, it was no fault of the humans. Rather, the development effort required was an artifact of science. Reality working it’s magic and ensuring that nothing will be ready before it’s ready. A true test of human perseverance, but they did it. Through feast and famine, through the birth of their new star, and through a lot of managerial changes… they did it.
Interstellar radio everywhere is fairly complicated. For one, you need a big, seemingly endless power source somewhat nearby, typically these are stars. For two, since stars die but music never stops, you need to be able to relocate to new stars from time to time. Third, having all the music of the cosmos is an extremely time consuming task; the workforce at SOAK is immense at about 35 billion fully self aware lifeforms. What this dream required was a planet… that could transfer itself to distance galaxies… forever. It’s a good thing good artists don’t take no for an answer.
When you’re building a radio station the size of jupiter, well, things take time. Have you ever tried to terraform from the vacuum of space all the while trying to solve the problem of beaming music past the edge of the known universe? Managing a staff of 35 billion living somethings, on top of the scientific challenges, really does require a lot of focus. But to the credit of the humans, they never gave up as they always knew the value interstellar music streaming would bring to all life in all galaxies.
And thanks to humanity and SOAK, the music delivery planet, the universe could still find it’s hope when all hope was lost. It’s fair to say, SOAK is why we’re all still here… but that story is for another time.
SOAK… 500 years in the making… 500 years well spent.
